modSecurity, often referred to as ModSec, is an open-source web application firewall (WAF). It is typically used as a module for Apache HTTP Server but can also be deployed with other web servers for increased security. modSecurity provides protection from various attacks against web applications, including SQL injection, cross-site scripting (XSS), and brute force attacks, by monitoring HTTP traffic in real-time and applying a set of rules to identify and mitigate threats.
